Edge's News: Trump was 'responsible' for January 6 says Former AG Bill Barr....Video.

Former Attorney General Bill Barr said he does think former President Donald Trump was 'responsible' for the January 6 Capitol attack, telling NBC's Lester Holt the ex-president wanted to 'intimidate Congress.'

Barr also slammed Trump's 'clown show' of lawyers, in a new clip of Holt's interview that debuted Friday morning.

'I do think he was responsible in the broad sense of that word,' Barr told Holt about January 6. 'It appears that part of the plan was to send this group up to the Hill.'

'I think the whole idea was to intimidate Congress and I think that that was wrong,' the former attorney general added.

Barr also revealed that he ridiculed Trump's legal team during the same heated meeting where he offered up his resignation.

'I said the reason you are where you are is because you wheeled out a clown show of lawyers,' Barr said. 'Yeah, clown car, or something like that - just a bunch of clowns,' Barr clarified.

Holt asked Barr to specify who he meant - and then mentioned Trump's lawyer, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani. 'His crackerjack legal team,' Barr replied. And at the mention of Giuliani he added,' Among others.'

In an earlier clip released from the interview, Barr recounted the dramatic moment from the same meeting when Trump slammed his hand on his desk and ordered him to go home without delay after he disputed Trump's election fraud claims.

Barr resigned his post shortly before Christmas in 2020, just weeks before the end of Trump's term – in an event that has since been revealed to be a sign of inner White House turmoil over Trump's efforts to push his fraud claims even after they were thrown out of a succession of courts.

'I told him that all this stuff was bulls*** about election fraud,' Barr said. 'And, you know, it was wrong to be shoveling it out the way his team was. And he started asking me about different theories. And I had the answers. I was able to tell him, "This is wrong because of this,"' Barr said.

Barr, who is promoting a new book, also described his dramatic confrontation with Trump. 'He was obviously getting very angry about this,' Barr recalled. 'I said, "OK, well, look, I understand you're upset with me. And I'm perfectly happy to tender my resignation."' That prompted a furious outburst from Trump.

'And then, boom! He slapped the desk, and he said, "Accepted!" Accepted!"' 'And then, boom! He slapped it again,' Barr said, slapping his own hand for emphasis. 'Accepted! Go home. Don't go back to your office. Go home. You're done,' he says Trump told him.

The dramatic confrontation between the two men is one Trump tried to paper over in a tweet announcing Barr's departure, when it was revealed he would stay on until Dec. 23.

'Just had a very nice meeting with Attorney General Bill Barr at the White House,' Trump Tweeted Dec. 14th. 'Our relationship has been a very good one, he has done an outstanding job!'

Trump in a new statement to NBC said he demanded Barr leave for failing to do his job, calling his former AG 'Lazy' and a 'coward.'  A House select committee is probing January 6th Capitol attack and Trump's effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

It was a stunning last act for Barr with Trump. He had infuriated congressional Democrats after he released a summary of the Mueller report – which when viewed in full spelled out 10 areas of potential obstruction of justice by Trump.

Barr hit back at Democrats for their criticism that his summary didn't reflect the totality of the serious admonitions contained in the full report, which probed Trump's firing of former FBI Director James Comey and potential efforts to obstruct the Mueller probe itself.

'That's not true. What it was, was a tantrum by the people who were hoping that Mueller would be able to bring down Trump,' Barr said. Barr also ridiculed Trump's infamous 2019 call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, where Trump asked him to 'do us a favor' and investigate Joe Biden's son Hunter, at a time when Zelensky was pleading for arms.

Zelensky on the call with Trump said Ukraine was 'ready to buy more Javelins from the United States for defense purposes.' The conversation, a key part of the first Trump impeachment, has taken on new attention amid Zelensky's desperate pleas for arms amid Russia's invasion, where Zelensky has become an international folk hero for standing up to the attack.

'This whole maneuver of trying to get the Ukrainians to investigate Biden. That was a hare-brained scheme. It was ridiculous,' Barr said. He said he was 'livid' when he learned Trump told Zelensky that he would have lawyer Rudy Giuliani and Barr call Zelensky.

The Justice Department denied Barr had any knowledge of the situation when the call transcript came out.

Barr describes the episode in his memoir, 'One Damn Thing After Another.'  Barr also claimed to have yelled at Trump after he asked the attorney general about Hunter Biden's laptop, a new excerpt from Barr's explosive forthcoming memoir revealed on Wednesday.

The ex-attorney general and his boss did not speak until weeks past the election afterwards, Barr wrote in his personal account of the Trump White House. In a segment obtained by Fox, Barr described an October 2020 phone call from Trump.

It was allegedly soon after the former president watched a Newsmax clip about the laptop, which threatened to have explosive information on then-candidate Biden and his recovering drug addict son. Barr claimed Trump asked him: 'You know this stuff from Hunter Biden's laptop?'

'Mr. President, I can't talk about that, and I am not going to,' Barr said he 'sharply' replied. The former Cabinet official said Trump was displeased with his tone and asked him to consider whether it was one of his five children instead of Biden's son.

'You know, if that was one of my kids-- ' Trump began, according to the book.

Barr cut him off: 'Dammit, Mr. President, I am not going to talk to you about Hunter Biden. Period!'
