Image
Just as Facebook’s Antigone Davis was live on CNBC defending the company over a whistleblower’s accusations and its handling of research data suggesting Instagram is harmful to teens, the company’s entire network of services suddenly went offline.  The outage started just before noon ET, and nearly four hours later there’s no sign or restoration, and no one from the company has offered an explanation of the issues or estimates for when they will be fixed. On Twitter, Facebook communications exec Andy Stone says, “We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologise for any inconvenience.” A peek at Down Detector (or your Twitter feed) reveals the problems are widespread. While it’s unclear exactly why the platforms are unreachable for so many people, their DNS records show that, like last week’s Slack outage, the problem is appare...

Edge's News: Twitter ban in Nigeria to be lifted if platform sets up a local office and pays taxes, President says

Image
Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari announced on Friday that the ban on Twitter would be lifted, but only if the social media giant met certain conditions. Edge’s Prospective: President Buhari is a comedian, he wants twitter to implement all he has outlined in a failed economy, a country with no sustainable power supply in 2021. Basic amenities for the citizens can not bet met, yet he is given conditional lift on a ban that was unwarranted and made no singles sense other than to make Minister of Information and Culture Mr. Lia Mohammed feel good about himself on the realisation that he is able to exert some sort power even if its only temporary. If own economy was booming and will not take astronomical logistics to setup a base of operation for twitter in Nigeria, do you think they will not jump at it, instead of running to Ghana. With our population of about 200Million plus, every hand is an opportunity waiting to happen, which will generate revenue directly or indirectly for th...

Image
Whats the magic behind the Nigerian Citizen..... I look at this picture and several questions run through my mind.  How are Nigeria’s truly surviving, how is the ordinary Nigerian waking up everyday in Nigeria with a smile on their face or a sense of belonging, is there something I’m missing about the country or is there something fundamentally wrong with our genetic make up. Because even the so called elites are feeling the pinch.   Please can anyone educate me in the comments on how Nigerians are pulling off this magic, you are the most resourceful, hard working people on the planet even though you get no accolades for it or pat on the back, your government never praises your  individuality and strength of character on continuous survival and weathering the Nigeria storm (Police abuse, Herdsmen Killing, Kidnapping, Bandits, Boko Haram, Citizen right violation, Army Bulling) everyday.. All government portrays of its citizen is fraud this, i...
