Edge's News: Bishop Oyedepo fumes about Youths and earphones...in Church

The General Overseer of Living Faith Church, Bishop David Oyedepo has imposed a ban on the use of earphones in his church recently.

According to Oyedepo in a sermon on Sunday, August 22, young persons who put on earphones to church are not ready to hear the word of God and as such, should go somewhere else.

The Bishop went on to say:

“Young generation, please listen to me: all these things you plug in your ear is to block your way forward. It is designed by the devil to block your way forward.

“No time to hear from God. Many have never heard anything from God. They even plug it in anywhere, on the streets: noise, noise, noise! Zero access to divine guidance. Noise in the morning, afternoon, night. “you plug something in your ears, while you are in Church? Never. Go somewhere else. Never, you sit down tight, hear the Word or stay on the road. Life is about discipline.”

We @edge do agree that the use earphones, EarPods, and other listening devices with noise cancellation which means its block with everything around you except the sound coming from the ear piece,….yes it does an excellent job in answering calls and speaking in a noisy environment, but if not careful the potential danger of having them on permanently are huge.  

I have witnessed where a teenager had on his EarPods and walk right in front of a car and even though the car was blasting its horn he could not hear a beep until the car pulled in front of him missing him by an inch.

We believe wearing in earphones in certain places, like places of worship should be done with common sense.. if you are not ready to listen don’t bother coming its that simple.

An outright ban might be a bit too much.. There’s an oldadage in Africa that says “You discipline your child with your right hand and pet them with your left’ ….. Meaning never let your rebuke or chastising be too harsh..
