Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama What wrong with our Embassies and our Ambassadors
Open Discussion To Nigerian Ambassadors around the world.
Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Geoffrey Jideofor Kwusike Onyeama, the Buhari administration is an elected one which makes you a public servant. So you are obligated to answer question posed to you by the people who elected you (The Nigerian people) into office for understanding and clarification.
Please permit me to ask a fundamental question with all protocols dully observed, what is wrong with Nigerian embassies around the globe. All our embassies are embarrassing, deplorable, lacks basic amenities for its citizens and customer service etiquette.
The big question is WHY can’t we learn a thing or two from our western partners and allies... I mean this is disheartening. We all have visited embassies of other countries around the world, even foreign Consulates and embassies in Nigeria are of pristine standard, with impeccable customer service (even though it might not result to issuance of visa to genuine travellers) why can’t we copy or replicate such in our embassies all over the world.
Why can’t we have an environment and service that is exemplary for our citizens and visitors alike... some of who have never been to Nigeria but their first experience is when they walk into a Nigerian embassy; what do they get to see often time than not... chaos, loud, unprofessional conduct and obstinate staff who feel entitled.
When you are paid to render a service anywhere in the world is contractual, you owe the customer comfort, respect, safe and conducive place to wait and relax until that service has been rendered (i.e. Passport renew, visa issuance, Travel documents etc..) it should be one of the most wonderful experience that citizens/foreigners should ever have, because every Nigerian embassy is a window to our country, our people and our culture.
What is the real cause of our embassies been in such state:
- Lack of funding
- Lack of vision
- Lack of training on customer service
- Vacuum in Leadership
- Corruption.
Or is it that we don’t believe we (Nigerians) also deserve the best services and hassle free.
If it’s funding I’m sure Nigerian will gladly create a Go Fund-me page for Nigerian embassies around the world to stop embarrassing us as a Nation.
Don’t you want to feel that sense pride when foreigners walks into a Nigerian embassies and say “wow is this the Nigerian embassy, are you sure I’m in the right place”.
Please let’s do something that will clean up and overhaul our embassies, stop treating our citizens like trash and maybe just maybe other countries will take the hint and treat us better.. they say treat others how you want to be treated... that fits perfectly here.
People like to shout the Nigerian factor…..all that is hogwash, Nigeria and Nigerians are no different from any other country in the world who give their citizen the best and uphold their rights…
Let’s not just carry our Nigerian pride with our chest and shoulders high, but let show ourselves to the world in the way we treat and honour our people everywhere in the world.
